Objective:
The main objective of this diagnostic system is to
collect as many soybean disease or disease-like symptoms that occur in Thailand as possible, eventhough some of them may not have any
economic significance. Hopefully, it will be of some use for research agronomist and,
especially, agricultural extensionist who are not familiar with soybean diseases.
System
description:
This is not a databased
system but a rule-based expert system using heuristic knowledge. It was developed by using
the expert shell of EXSYS Professional for Windows v5. The knowledge base was written in
Thai, now in version 1.0.
The detail information about the characteristics of symptom was derived
mainly from the field experiments and any symptoms not occur in the field were obtained
from literature and plant pathologist. At present, the system is mainly concerned with
plant diseases and only few cases deal with plant nutrient deficiency, insect and chemical
injuries which had happened in the experiment. Since the system was developed for
non-plant pathologist, it does not require laboratory analysis in all cases that have a
distinct visual symptom it requires only a hand-held magnifier and a small pocket-knife.
For other cases some information about the surroundings is needed.
Output:
It lists any possible causes of symptom, provides control
recommendations for serious cases, and in many cases showing a picture.
