1.      Complete Chapter 5  of Inside ArcView GIS 8.3 on Graphics, labels, and Annotation using the following exercises.

·         Exercise 5.1: Setting up for chapter work

·         Exercise 5.2: Dynamic Feature-based layer labeling.

 

What are the differences between labels and annotation in ArcGIS? Why do you need to convert labels to annotation? How would you do it?

 

  1. Insert a data frame and add the map layer Chiang Mai Land Use from the shape file that you have in the server.

 

a) Create two thematic maps of land use by assigning suitable style to

each land use type using the field CROP_EN. Label only the features 

that are deciduous forest, hill evergreen forest and paddy with Tahoma 16

Bold font and without duplication labels for each land use type.

 

b) Create the thematic map of major land use types using the field

LANDUSE_TY. (In this field A = Agriculture, F = Forestry, M = Mixed land uses

W = Water body and U = Urban). Label all major land use types without any

duplications. Add the stream to this data frame and label the main stream near

the lower left corner of the area with “Mae Nam Ping” by aligning the label

along the direction of the river.

 

Submit both thematic maps as ArcMap documents (.mxd file) in:

AGS722\Yourname\Assignment\
