Systems Modelling and Simulation in Asia
Systems Modeling and Simulation play an important role in the everyday life of the mankind nowadays. Not only integrating existing knowledge and improving understanding about biophysical and socio-economic systems, appropriate systems modeling and simulation techniques could also be applied for evaluating a wide range of scenarios for better production and marketing systems to meet development trend of today world.

History of ASIMMOD:

In autumn of 2003, Dr. Santhad Rojanasoonthon, Chairman of the Executive Board of the National Research Councils of Thailand has commented during the IWRAM project meeting about the importance of simulation technology on development. Later, Dr. Voratas Kachitvichyanukul of Asian Institute of Technology was assigned the task of convening an international conference on simulation in Thailand.

With the help of Professor Anthony Jakeman and friends in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, the International Conference on Simulation and Modeling 2005 (SIMMOD 2005) was successfully convened during January 17-20, 2005 at the Rose Garden Aprime Resorts in Nakhonpathom, Thailand with an international participants of over 150 from more than 20 countries. A total of 85 papers were presented and published in both CD and hardcopy proceedings. The conference covered such major areas as:

  • Hydrology and Sustaining Livelihoods and the Environment
  • Industrial Systems
  • Modeling in Economic and Finance

At the conclusion of the conference, the participants agreed that a continuation of this type of conference would be beneficial to the regional academic and research communities and if possible, a formal organization should be established.

The Asian Simulation and Modeling Conference (ASIMMOD 2007) is a continuation of the effort to promote the awareness and development of simulation technology in this region. The 2007 conference will be convened in Chiangmai, Thailand

Objectives:

  1. To render participants in presenting and obtaining recent research results of Systems Modeling and Simulation.
  2. To exchange reference information and strengthen research cooperation between researchers and organization.
  3. To gain ideas, techniques and guidelines for sustainable development through Systems Modeling and Simulation.
